Helping children feel SAFE when they need it most
First UMC of Lockport is partnering with the Lockport Police Department (LPD) to help comfort children in their time of need. The police department has an outreach program that equips squad cars with a supply of teddy bears. If/When there are children present during a response to a call, the officers have these stuffed animals at their ready, as a means to help alleviate the children’s fears. Lockport First held its first Prayer Bears’ Drive on Valentine’s Day and collected over 100 stuffed animals. The teddy bears needed to be new (with tags on), range between 10 and 18 inches in size) and stored in plastic zip-lock-type bags so that they are in pristine condition for snuggling. The collection continues through November. Officers Brauch and Hamilton were on hand during the church service to accept the donations on behalf of LPD and were very appreciative of the church’s efforts and look forward to returning for subsequent Prayer Bear Drives throughout the year.
